North County Office Recognized

February 7, 2011

PWI’s North County office in Oceanside was recognized as a Nonprofit Finalist for the prestigious Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce Annual Business Awards. We will find out on March 4 if the office is the annual award winner.

The NC office is led by Julia Savoy, who joined the PWI team in 1998. She quickly rose from an employment training specialist, to manager and in 2001 was promoted to director of the office.

Congratulations to the entire PWI team for this achievement!

Impact of the Cuts

February 3, 2011

I want to direct you to two letters just published on the Huffington Post (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/chantal-sicile-kira/post_1652_b_816993.html).

They are written by Chantal Sicile-Kira and her son Jeremy, a 22 year old studying at community college. They tell the story of the impact of the cuts proposed in the Governor’s budget on one of the 240,000 persons in California with a developmental disability.

State Budget Cuts Threaten PWI and other providers

January 31, 2011

The Governor’s budget proposes $750M ($1B with lost federal matches) for the developmental disabilities community. $553.5M are in unspecified cuts which will target community based providers like PWI. Please call your Assembly Member and State Senator and tell them no more cuts to community based providers – have the cuts come from DDS administration and DDS developmental centers. See list below for numbers.
